Sustainable Tourism Ireland delivers eco-tourism activities and tours of Dublin, aimed at groups of students. The modules would be of interest and benefit to students with an interest in learning more about eco-tourism. They are conducted through eco-tours of Dublin and classroom based activities.
DUBLIN ECO-TOUR 1 – Short 1 hour tour.
Participation can be either morning/afternoon any day including Saturdays and Sundays.
This course is suitable for people that are new to the concept of responsible tourism. It demonstrates how tourism can be enjoyed while contributing to the environmental, economic and social enhancement of the tourism area.
Eco-tour of Dublin City Centre (note: the tour can be run in any side of town).
1) Starting point at Cultivate: setting the scene.
2) Arts/culture: Visit Celtic Dublin/ Christchurch Cathedral/ Creative Corridor in Thomas Street.
3) Eco-building in Temple Bar + Daintree Building in Camden Street.
4) Local Products: Dublin brewery, Porter House or another fresh/organic/vegetarian business.
DUBLIN ECO-TOUR 2 - Half-Day Dublin Eco-Tour: for groups/schools, on request.
This course would be suitable for people who are already knowledgeable about eco-tourism and would like to learn and experience more. A high level of English is recommended.
The introduction is a 1-hour classroom based activity, which include:Introductory Activity; Overview/Video on Sustainable Tourism Ireland / Ecotourism principles; Carbon Footprint Activity.
It follows a more extended tour around the city:
1) Starting point Cultivate to set the scene
2) Stop at a local, organic shop, brewery or shopping arcade.
4) Save energy / Eco-building in Temple Bar + Daintree Building in Camden Street
5) Leave no trace / Recycle instruction and demonstration.
6) Support local NGO: For a short day visit the Dublin Food Coop / Amnesty Café. Alternatively we travel to Ballymun, Fair Trade city where we can have a light lunch.
7) Evening stop at local pub (ex. Gravediggers)
