It is the Ireland's first 'eco-village' project in Cloughjordan, North Tipperary. Once completed, it will include 130 dwellings along with shops, playgrounds and communal facilities. According to the principles of Permaculture, there will also be an equal area of community land for growing, and the same area again for shared amenity and woodland.
The overall is made of fully serviced plots, which have outline planning for various buildings, and will then be built by members in line with ecological specifications.
“As a community we aim to share out the rights and responsibilities of making this project work. Our evolving decision-making processes are founded on the Consensus model, with practical structures in place to ensure that we achieve our aims”, says one of the founder of The Village.
